A Boatload of Seafood at The Creek

With its decadent heaps of Dungeness crab legs, lobster tails, peel-and-eat shrimp, mussels and lobster tails, the Seafood Boil at Phillippi Creek has a domino effect on diners. When one table orders the feast—served in a boat-shaped dish and stacked high with fresh seafood—echoes of  “What’s that?!” and “We want that!” ripple through the restaurant.

Crafted by chefs Pedro Flores and Rafael Manzano, the southern-style dish is designed to feed two very hungry people (though, even then, a take-home box is typically in order). Sounds like
paradisial perfection, right? So, what’s the catch? It’s a little messy. Take off your rings and tuck in your napkin, because you’re going to require a lot of wet naps. That glorious, dripping mess comes from a combination of Old Bay seasoning and drawn butter. A thick layer of garlic-and-parsley red potatoes lines the bottom of the boat, with some garlic toast points on top, corn on the cob and all the crustaceans you can crack.

While you're indulging, soak in the creek-side sights. Sit outside under an umbrella-shaded picnic table on the wooden dock, and scope out the water for dolphins and manatees. You can even pull up your boat. Pair your boil with a tropical beverage like a Chocolate Monkey—with silver rum, banana liqueur, Baileys Irish Cream, vanilla crème and banana puree (served frozen with swirls of chocolate syrup, a pineapple wedge, a maraschino cherry and a mini umbrella). There’s happy hour every day and plenty of key lime pie for dessert. And if you don’t have the appetite for a full seafood boil, scarf the award-winning fish tacos. There’s a reason The Creek has been a peak seafood experience in Sarasota for nearly four decades. Ready to get deliciously messy? Boy oh boil, this is so worth it.
