Manatee County Distributing Sandbags for Residents

Government

As of 2pm, October 8, residents in northern parts of Manatee County are under a tropical storm watch, and Hurricane Michael is projected to deliver up to four inches of rainfall and a storm surge of up to four feet according to acting Emergency Management Chief Steve Litschauer. In response, Manatee County Public Works crews will make sandbags available for residents tomorrow at three locations around the county. Manatee County residents may pick up sandbags from 8am to 7pm tomorrow, Tuesday, October 9 at the following locations: G.T. Bray Park, Bennett Park and the Bradenton Area Convention Center at 1 Haben Boulevard. Residents (ID required) are allowed to fill ten bags per household. There are no plans to open local shelters or to declare a local state of emergency, Litschauer said yesterday. He will deliver an update to County Commissioners at a regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow at 9am. The meeting will be held in the first floor chambers of Manatee County Administrative Center. The meeting will also air live at the website below.
